Dear fellow parishioners,
I was in Walmart’s a few days ago, and was reminded that it’s “back to school time” once again. Young mothers, with their children in tow, were reaching for pencils, backpacks, calculators and notebooks. It is Labor Day weekend, and the unofficial end of summer. But some of our finest weather on Long Island is still ahead in this month of September. Next Sunday we will hold our annual Parish Picnic Barbecue on the Church grounds from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Tickets are on sale after all Masses today. I hope you will be able to join us for a wonderful day of family and fun.
What a terrific evening was had by more than 200 parishioners and friends who attended the L.I. Ducks baseball game on a perfect August 18th evening. And topped off with a Grucci fireworks display! I thank Donna McCauley for organizing the activities. And also for supervising another successful Vacation Bible School for our little ones earlier in the month. Lucille and Dick Coleman kept the “Spirit of St. Louis” alive with the sale of beautifully designed tee shirts containing our Church logo.
At this time I wish to announce that St. Louis de Montfort Parish has received a very generous bequest from the estate of the late William and Agnes Regan – in the amount of $30,207.81. Dick and Agnes were longtime and faithful members of the parish and community, long before I came to the shores of Sound Beach. I can still remember the warm welcome I received from them upon my arrival. Through many health issues which each faced, the joy they expressed, and their trust in Jesus, never diminished. We truly are eternally grateful. Their bequest has been designated for use in our Renovation Campaign.
The renovation of the Church interior is nearing completion. We expect the remainder of the pews, book racks, kneelers, sanctuary furniture, choir chairs, and new organ console to be in place within the next two weeks. Once again, I am grateful for the dedication of the members of the Renovation Committee, and especially to the Project Coordinator, Paul Guido.
We continue to be: “Grateful for our Past; and Planning for our Future.” God bless.
